Fountain vs Biro (2008)

April 7, 2008 - One Response

Hello readers,

I have a small debate that I put forward to you all. For those of you who are keen writers (of the non-digital world) I have a question.  What is the better type of pen?  I spend alot of my days creating referrals and letters to GP’s and mainly use a Biro, but recently I have acquired a rather fancy looking fountain pen. Ill put forward the pros and cons for each design and then you can decide which one wins.

I qoute the fountain  pen,

“‘We wish to construct a pen which can be used for writing without having recourse to an ink-holder and whose ink will be contained inside it. A person can fill it with ink and write whatever he likes. The writer can put it in his sleeve or anywhere he wishes and it will not stain nor will any drop of ink leak out of it. The ink will flow only when there is an intention to write. We are unaware of anyone previously ever constructing (a pen such as this) and an indication of ‘penetrating wisdom’ to whoever contemplates it and realises its exact significance and purpose’. I exclaimed, ‘Is this possible?’ He replied, ‘It is possible if God so wills’.”

I qoute the biro,

“No man was more foolish when he had not a pen in his hand, or more wise when he had”

For me the elequence of the fountain speech and the passion placed upon such an invention makes it an all time winner. Fountain pens give documents that personal touch, the nib shapes to your writing position, the ink flow dependent on the speed of your writing. You cant deny the ease of use of the Biro pen. However when it comes to making it personal, the fountain wins every time.

Snakes and Adders

April 6, 2008 - Leave a Response

Hello readers,

For those of you who don’t know I did posses a corn snake. However last week at some point it decided to escape from his vivarium, aptly giving me the opportunity to nickname him Schofield as in Michael Schofield from Prison break.

1 week later and the snake has till not turned up, probably managed to find the “real world” and is happy eating all the rats that infest the sewer system of the UK. Me being me decided to buy a new one yesterday and I write this post staring into the eyes of a 1 foot long orange shaded corn snake.

Most people dont understand why I like snakes so much. Most people think those of us who keep snakes and other reptiles as pets are perhaps a wee bit nutty. For most people, a pet encompasses that broad scale of fur covered vertebrae, that can be petted, played with, and loves us back in return. Obviously, reptiles, and especially snakes, don’t fall in that cetegory. While I can handle my snake and enjoy its company, they don’t offer much in the way of “loving attention” back. So why in the world would anyone want to keep snakes?

  1. Snakes are fascinating animals, and often misunderstood until you own one and take the time to study it.
  2. It can be educational for us.
  3. Some species are in danger in the wild. Captive breeding and maintenance helps keep the species alive and takes pressue off the wild population.
  4. They’re just fun to have around.

No doubt many of you will be familiar with the 2crazy blog, well this is more about me. I have set it up in preparation for my tour of Europe in summer. As for now it will contain anything I want to write about, interesting links, media snippets, general gossip, you know the usual purpose of a blog.

Onwards. People, you should try flock its a new browser that lets you integrate all your web applications into one user friendly home screen. Pretty neat considering how many social and media utilities people can access these day. Try it out.
